Reflection: Looking Back at 2016

A little over seven months ago, I sat down, signed up with WordPress and created Humidity is the Enemy.  It was the greatest feeling, as someone who has been an avid style blog reader for years, to now have my own platform.  Let me tell you something, blogging is not as easy as it seems!  Some days are more challenging than others as I’m the only one managing my site, my content, my e-mails and all of my social media accounts, while working a full-time job at a small company.  If I knew then what I knew now, I would definitely do some things differently.

First, I wish I would have had a plan mapped out.  I’m one that always plans for the future and I definitely should have had a list of goals I wanted to achieve in a specific time frame.  Managing both a full-time job and a blog is definitely not easy, so being more organized in the new year will help me stay focused and motivated.  Second, I wish I would have found Blog Tyrant’s ‘A 44-Point Checklist for Starting a Quality Blog’ article much earlier!  Granted this has helped me out recently, it would have been great to have this checklist as I was starting out so I wouldn’t have to take some steps back.  However, everything happens for a reason and this checklist has been a life saver this year.  Lastly, I wish I would have found a mentor.  Although blogging may look like a one person job, I think I could have achieved more success by having someone to lean on for questions or advice.  I love hearing others’ success stories and what obstacles they overcame to get to where they are today.  I know I’m still new to the blogging world but I want to learn and grow and succeed.  In the new year, I will definitely network more.

Overall, it has been such a great experience and I’m taking everything I learned this year with me into 2017.  I’m still learning what works and what doesn’t.  It’s such a competitive world out there and I think what’s most challenging is standing out from the large crowd.  I want my voice to be heard and I want to be just as influential as Sincerely Jules and Atlantic Pacific.

Thank you to those who have been on this journey with me since the beginning.  It has been great so far but I am looking forward to 2017 and can’t wait to see what is in store for me.  I want to see more in the new year and constantly be inspired so I can continue to create content and inspire more.  While we still have some time left in 2016, let’s take a look at some of my favorite looks from this year!  (Click on the image or link to read the original post.)
