I started the fifth grade at a brand new school. Shortly after, I found out I was near sighted and needed to start wearing glasses immediately. Not too long after that, I also found out that I needed to start wearing braces, too. Yes, I was that kid – a 4’11” 5th grader wearing my Catholic school girl uniform, black square frames and braces. (Luckily, my classmates were all very nice and never once teased me about my appearance!)
My middle school braces followed me into high school. I wore braces from the age of 10 to just a few months shy of my 16th birthday. After my braces were removed by my orthodontist, he did his best to eliminate any lingering stains from the braces off my teeth. However, my teeth were still not as white as they used to be before braces.
I wanted to get my teeth bleached by my dentist but of course, insurance didn’t cover it and I was a high school student working part time. Paying out of pocket was definitely out my budget. So instead I turned to at-home options.
Over the years, I’ve used many whitening products, predominantly toothpastes and mouthwashes. I have very sensitive teeth so I could never try whitening strips or trays. My friends and family told me that my teeth looker whiter and whatever I was using was working. Even so, when I looked in the mirror, I still saw slightly yellow teeth and it made me self-conscious.
Still wanting to achieve a whiter smile, I read about activated charcoal and its benefits. The Ultimate Carbon Kit comes with one activated charcoal tooth polish, one activated charcoal toothpaste and one toothbrush with bamboo bristles. Activated charcoal is the oxidized version of charcoal and is used to effectively whiten teeth.
In the morning and before bed, you dip your damp tooth brush into the charcoal tooth polish and brush teeth gently for two-three minutes. It is black so you do look a little crazy while brushing! The tooth polish is also a little messy, which is to be expected but be prepared for a little clean up! Aside from whitening your teeth, the tooth polish also reduces plaque, strengthens enamel and promotes good oral health.
Then, you brush your teeth with the activated charcoal toothpaste. The toothpaste is black as well and is a fluoride free formula. It foams as you brush, leaving your mouth feeling very fresh and very clean. This is probably my favorite toothpaste that I have ever used! After brushing with this toothpaste, I feel like I’ve gotten my regularly cleaning with my dentist. Seriously – my teeth feel that clean!
I am truly loving these products so far! I do see my teeth starting to become whiter and I feel my overall oral health improving since switching to activated charcoal. As long as I stay consistent, I know I will be back on track to a whiter smile that I feel confident about.
I definitely recommend these products to anyone who has been considering trying activated charcoal toothpaste or just looking for an effective teeth whitening product. Personally, I prefer these CARBON COCO products over a teeth whitening tray or strip any day, as they are a safer, organic option.
