Hello again! I can’t believe we’re already half way through August! This summer flew by so quickly but honestly, with the humid, muggy weather New York has been having lately, I’m definitely looking forward to fall.
I was so excited to receive my August glam bag. First of all, I love the design of the bag. The story behind the bag and this month’s theme is getting glammed up and indulging in what makes you feel good or happy! I love this month’s ipsy bag and the products I received. I definitely got introduced to a few new brands this month and products I will consider buying when my samples run out. Without further ado, let’s get into this month’s review of my ipsy glam bag!
I’m not familiar with the brand but I was super excited to receive the ThisWorks In Transit Camera Close-up. It is a mask, moisturizer and primer all in one! It smells amazing! I tried it out today and was pretty impressed. I love having a moisturizer and primer together as one application before applying make-up. I applied this early in the morning before work. My face stayed matte for about 6-7 hours (which is amazing) before the oil started resurfacing on my face. I was a little shiny on my t-zone but I did not look like an oily mess. I did apply a concealer to cover up some blemishes before applying my foundation, so next time I will do the same steps minus the concealer and see if there is a difference. I really do like this product and want to try it under other foundations as well as without wearing any foundation.
I was very excited to receive the NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator, as I can never have enough highlighters and illuminators. However, I wasn’t too impressed with this one. I swatched it on my hand and my first impression was that it is very shimmery and very sheer. I also think the shade I received, Sunbeam, was a little too light for my skin tone. It looks like it will give that dewy effect when applied with foundation, which I unfortunately can’t pull off due to my oily/combo skin. I will find some use of this sample but won’t be purchasing when I run out.
At first, I thought I was receiving a a beauty blender pro but then realized it was a Beau Gachis Paris Pro Series Applicator Sponge. It is not as squishy as the original beauty blender but serves the same purpose. I used it damp to apply my foundation and had the same results as applying with my usual beauty blender. The quality of this applicator is way better than the $5 beauty blenders that are sold everywhere. These applicators are sold in a set of two on Amazon and on the Beau Gachis site. If you haven’t committed to an original beauty blender because of the price or whatever the reason may be, I would recommend the Beau Gachis as another option, quality and price wise.
I’m usually happy with the nail polish colors ipsy sends me but truly nailed it on the head this month. I received a Dermelect ME Nail polish in the color Unscripted, which is a beautiful “energetic violet”, as they describe it on their website. I have a huge selection of nail polishes and probably more than I need, but I don’t have anything remotely close to this color! What’s cool about this line of nail polishes is that they are the first peptide-infused nail polishes that treat weak nails and also have a chip resistant formulation to ensure longer wear on nails. These retail for $14, which is more than Essie but less than Deborah Lippmann. I’m so excited about this color that I’m going to paint my nails with it after I finish this post!
I love receiving hair serums in my ipsy bags! This month I received the it Haircare 12-in-one Amazing Serum and wonder why I never heard of this brand before! I literally want to try everything from their hair care line, but I will start out with the serum for now! A few of the benefits that spoke to me were providing more shine, maximum heat protection, UV protection from the sun and protecting hair from split ends and breakage. Every girl needs this serum! There are twelve listed benefits that could help any flaw on any hair type. I used it for the first time today and am anxious to see results as I have read really good reviews about this serum! Also, you can’t beat the price – $9.99!
I redeemed this Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer with my ipsy points as I have been wanting to try this product for the absolute longest time. I’ve heard great things about this brand and couldn’t wait to try this out. This concealer is a little greasy which I learned after applying to my face! I used this to cover up a few blemishes before applying my foundation but the areas I was covering seem to be highlighted by this foundation rather than covered. It does blend really well and besides the greasiness, I didn’t have any issues with it cracking or creasing on my face. I didn’t get the full coverage I wanted with this concealer. However, I will continue to use this on my cheekbones before applying foundation because I had a really pretty, natural glow.
